Institute of West Asian Studies (IKRAB), is a research institute under Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (The National University of Malaysia). It was established on October 8, 2007 to conduct academic and policy studies associated with the West Asian region. In the context of the institute, West Asian region encompasses Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Israel, Turkey, Sudan, Egypt, Cyprus, Afghanistan and Iran. It also includes Pakistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Hence the scope of West Asian countries under IKRAB is not limited to Arab states only but includes some countries in Central Asia, South Asia, Mediterranean Europe and North Africa. The main objectives of IKRAB are: *To conduct academic, policy, and strategic studies in the areas of history, civilization, politics, international relations and economics in West Asia. *To build and generate a corpus of knowledge on West Asian region through direct and systematic research *To establish a body of expertise in West Asian studies *To build a comprehensive academic and research networking in all affairs related to the West Asian region *To be a reference center for information and knowledge about the West Asian region The four research thrusts of IKRAB are: *History and Civilization in West Asia *Politics, Education and International Relations *Economy and International Trade *Science and Technology ==Activities==
